Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What does Arthur James Advisory do?

Arthur James Advisory is a private art investment and advisory firm.
We connect collectors and investors with carefully sourced blue-chip and emerging artworks, providing research, introductions, and tailored market guidance.
We do not hold client funds or artworks — you remain the legal owner of any work you acquire.

2. Do I own the artwork I buy?

Yes — you own the artwork outright.
When you purchase a work through Arthur James Advisory, legal title passes directly to you.
We act as an introducer or broker, not a custodian, and we never hold or take ownership of client assets.

3. What are your fees?

4.1. Purchase Fee

A Margin is payable to Arthur James Advisory upon successful acquisition of any artwork introduced by us, calculated on the total purchase price.

4.2. Management Fees

There are no ongoing management fees charged by Arthur James Advisory.

4.3. Performance Fees

If you choose to engage Arthur James Advisory to assist with the future sale or exit of your artwork, a 20% Performance Fee will apply to profits realised above a 10% hurdle rate based on your original purchase price.

Example:
If a work purchased for £10,000 is later sold for £14,000, the first £1,000 (10%) is exempt from fees. Of the remaining £3,000 profit, Arthur James Advisory’s 20% Performance Fee (£600) applies.

4. What does the 10% hurdle rate mean?

The 10% hurdle rate means no performance fees are charged on the first 10% of profit you make from a resale.
Our 20% performance fee only applies to profits above that threshold, ensuring you benefit first.

5. Who handles payment and delivery?

Payments are made directly to the gallery, artist, or verified seller.
Arthur James Advisory does not handle client funds.
Once your purchase is confirmed, we can assist with logistics and introduce reputable partners for storage, framing, or shipping.

6. Can you arrange storage or insurance?

Yes — while we do not store artworks ourselves, we can introduce trusted partners who specialise in museum-grade storage, insurance, and logistics.

You’re free to choose your own provider, and all arrangements are made directly between you and them.

7. Do you guarantee authenticity?

All artworks introduced by Arthur James Advisory come from verified sources such as established galleries, estates, or auction partners.
We ensure due diligence and documentation accompany every acquisition.
However, as with any high-value transaction, we recommend that clients independently verify provenance and authenticity before purchase.

8. Is art investment regulated by the FCA?

No — fine art investment is not a regulated financial product under the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
Arthur James Advisory provides market information, introductions, and collection-building advice, but does not provide regulated financial or tax advice.

9. What kind of returns can I expect?

Art is a long-term asset.
While historical data shows strong performance for established artists, returns depend on timing, artist demand, and market conditions.
We aim to identify opportunities with strong fundamentals, but all investments carry risk — prices can go down as well as up.

10. How do I know which artists to invest in?

Our advisory process starts with understanding your objectives — whether you’re collecting for passion, diversification, or capital appreciation.
We then introduce artists and works that align with those goals, using data from the primary and secondary markets to inform decisions.

11. Can you help me resell my artwork?

Yes.
When you’re ready to exit, Arthur James Advisory can manage resale strategy — including pricing, positioning, and introductions to secondary market buyers.

12. Do you work with international clients?

Absolutely. We work with collectors and investors across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and beyond.
All transactions are conducted in accordance with international art trade standards, with currency and shipping arrangements tailored to your location.

13. How secure is my personal information?

We take privacy seriously. All client data is processed under UK GDPR, kept confidential, and never sold or shared without your consent.
You can review our Privacy Policy for full details.

14. Can I visit the artworks in person?

Yes — wherever possible, we can arrange private viewings or gallery introductions before purchase.
For off-market opportunities or artist studios, we coordinate directly with the seller to facilitate viewings securely.
